Waste management and recycling have become important pillars in the construction of the green economy. They offer a wide variety of job opportunities in the public and private sectors.
It is important to sensitise young Albanians to the employment opportunities that can arise in the green economy, so that they can also apply pressure on policy-makers to bring these issues to the fore in the policy agenda. The UN Joint Programme on Youth Employment and Migration has taken a group of youth from the neighborhood of Kombinat to Kep i Rodonit to see the disaster caused by the plastic waste accumulated on the beautiful shores of Albania. Supported by the Spanish Government, the Youth Employment and Migration Joint Programme was implemented jointly by the ILO, IOM, UNICEF, and UNDP between 06 Nov 2008 – 31 Dec 2012.
